Statewide Curriculum Networks

Most states have organizations at the state level with statutory oversight responsibilities over the colleges and/or universities in that state. And in many cases, those responsibilities include certain administrative responsibility regarding curriculum and curriculum approvals. CurricUNET META is ideally suited to support such statewide curriculum management needs.

At present, CurricUNET serves multiple statewide systems of higher education in the United States including the California Community College System, the Illinois Community College System, the Iowa Community College System, and the Ohio Board of Regents. These systems use a highly modified version of CurricUNET META to provide for electronic submissions of curriculum activities from the individual colleges and universities to the State Chancellor’s Office (or Board). Typically most of the individual institutions belonging to such state systems elect to acquire the local version of CurricUNET META. Even so, it is not a State System requirement that all colleges purchase a local version in order to participate in the state-level reporting. The result in either case offers more than streamlined statewide curriculum processing. These complex systems also produce, searchable statewide curriculum database.

Global Curriculum Network

Historically, colleges and universities tend to be highly independent. They pride themselves on the uniqueness of their faculties, and certainly on their curriculum offerings.

However, rapidly changing demographics in student constituencies and new business community educational requirements are placing unprecedented pressure on institutions to review and update their curriculum more frequently. Such changing conditions drive modern institutions to innovate curriculum offering using a more global perspective.

Curriculum Database

These trends emphasize the need for a shared, global curriculum database. With this need in mind, Governet has create exactly such a database: “CurricUSEARCH” provides participating institutions with Web-based access to 100% of one another’s approved course outlines and program/degree offerings.

Supporting Curriculum Review

This database is designed to facilitate curriculum review innovation, as well as inter-institution collaboration for certain offerings.

Facilitating Accreditation

Updating of curriculum is an increasing factor in accreditation processes. This further emphasizes the value of such a shared database. Even beyond accreditation needs, such a global database will energize global cooperation and collaboration among institutions of higher learning.
