Feather River College Becomes the First to Qualify for New BME/Governet Grant Service Assistance Program

SANTA BARBARA, May 26, 2013—Governet, innovators of technology solutions for higher education institutions, announced today that Feather River College has become the first to participate in a pilot Grant Writing Assistance Program designed to provide opportunity for underfunded colleges and universities to modernize and automate their curriculum processing. Created in partnership with Blue Mountain Energy (BME), the Grant Writing Assistance Program provides access to education grants and facilitates grant application processes that would otherwise be unaffordable for these institutions.

“We discovered that, due to tight budget constraints, some smaller institutions were unable to even consider purchasing advanced curriculum processing software that would ultimately save time and drastically reduce costs,” said Star Simmons, Vice President of Sales at Governet. “At the same time, we became aware of a number of grant programs that would provide funding to qualified institutions for this purpose.”

Simmons explained that, despite the variety of grant programs available to fund such systems for higher education institutions, the grant application process is time-consuming and requires additional human resources.  Furthermore, outsourcing grantwriting services is often too cost prohibitive for the institutions that could benefit most from a grantwriting program.

Located in Quincy, California and attended by students from all over the United States, Feather River College offers a variety of unique degree programs including Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Equestrian Science, Agriculture, Environmental Studies and Natural Resources. It also offers academic programs aligned with freshman and sophomore programs at four-year universities that have produced an exceptional rate of student transfers.

“Improving technology systems will help Feather River to reduce costs, save resources and more efficiently comply with California’s rigorous new reporting requirements,” said Derek Lerch, the Dean of Instruction at Feather River College. Lerch and administrators at Feather River College believe that this grant opportunity will enable the institution to pursue the technology, such as CurricUNET Meta, that it needs to streamline curricular activity, improve accuracy and reduce personnel-hours required to manage the development and approval processes. Additionally, Feather River College faculty look forward to having access to program descriptions from colleges around the world, which will provide a wealth of information that will allow them to make more informed curricular decisions. Lerch added, “The Grant Writing Assistance Program will help us to afford these improvements.”

“Our goal is to tap into available grants that would enable small institutions like Feather River College to streamline and automate curriculum processing and gain access to the Worldwide Curriculum Network,” said Simmons. “We recognize that access to alternative funding will help these smaller institutions improve their offerings and become more competitive globally.”
